Spanish Language, Literature & Culture
“What one has felt and thought in one language one can express with equal elegance in any other.”
This quote from l'Abbé Du Bos, if not shocking for its unintelligent ignorance, appeared to Hamann to be one of the least veracious remarks ever made by a human being. We all know that culture after all has something to do with language.
Studying language in a vacuum is not only boring for everyone save the most dedicated linguists, but also immensely more difficult if comprehension and expression are the primary goals. Tethering the target language to the culture therefore makes studying it increasingly interesting as well as easier to recall and wield, as the words hold ever more associations. Making the cultural material exciting then becomes the best way to let students improve while studying on their own as well as going beyond the classroom to non-academic usage. And of course, since an exam is involved, we make sure the Ivy Bridge test taking techniques that are applicable to this test are well known and well-rehearsed:
We’ll approach the language from multiple angles and beat the AP and IB exams. This course is taught by a Spanish expert with years of speaking and teaching experience in Spain. Students will cement language fundamentals, learn authentic writing strategies, and analyze a wide range of Spanish literature. Plus, we make personal connections that go beyond popular culture.
